PS5 Review: Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports

Is that all, folks?

Avoid wacky obstacles and gain power-ups to incite chaos against your friends & family as you play as your favorite Looney Tunes character in 4 classic sports: Basketball, Soccer, Golf, and Tennis!

I grew up watching Looney Tunes. To this day, seeing Wile E. Coyote fall of a cliff and for a cloud of smoke to pop up where he lands still makes me laugh out loud. There have been a ton of games for the series over the years, some good and some not so much. It’s been quite a while since a console Looney Tunes title, but is a sports mash-up the best use of the licence?

It looks that way to begin with. It has the classic music and voice-acting that you would expect, but the actual gameplay isn’t as fun as I had hoped it would be. It feels clunky and unresponsive for most of them, the exception being golf which is probably the more enjoyable of the 4 sports on offer, something I wasn’t expecting to happen.

There’s no real focus on single player besides challenges, which is disappointing. I would have thought they’d be some kind of story or career mode here. It also doesn’t help that there’s no online play, only local play which limits the experience even more. It feels like a pretty hollow game when you look at it with the content that’s available and I wish I could defend it, but I can’t.

The visuals get the job done and it does emulate the style of the franchise, but it lacks heart overall. The framerate is consistent and load times are short, while the voice-acting and soundtrack is authentic overall.

The Verdict

Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports is a missed opportunity for Bugs Bunny and co. The clunky and unresponsive controls make the game not fun to play, and with limited content plus a lack of online multiplayer, its hard to recommend to even the biggest fan.
