Can you survive five nights plus time travel?
Survive five nights of terror in this chilling adventure game. Travel between time periods to solve puzzles, gather clues, and outrun the threat relentlessly pursuing you. Move swiftly and stay hidden, and you may just survive. But be careful—it’s not just your own life that’s on the line this time.
Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit is a departure from the usual 3D games of animatronic nightmares hunting you down. This is a 2D outing that has you travel between time periods, play mini-games, as well as being hunted down by animatronic nightmares.
I have to say that I was dubious that a 2D horror could actually work in this age, but Into the Pit definitely delivers. There’s something sinister about the whole thing from the get-go and once it goes into fully swing, it never really lets up. You can make things easier on yourself by allowing the breathing mini-game to be auto-played, but I’d only recommend it if you find it too difficult.
The story is simple, but effective. You jump into a ball pit in your local pizza place, only to awaken in the past in Freddy Fazbear’s instead. It’s not long before all hell breaks loose and you’ll need to hide, gather clues and solve puzzles. Luckily you have a map to help you navigate around the rooms, but you will need to keep on your toes as you never know what’s round the corner.
The game may have a pixelated look, but cutscenes are more animated and retro at the same time. It does feel just as creepy to see the animatronics in this way than it does in 3D, so they’ve managed to nail the vibe down. My only gripe about the game is that it’s too short, I finished it quite quickly but went back to it after to find anything I missed first time round. The music is well done and adds to the already creepy atmosphere. I didn’t come across any glitches and load times were non-existent.
The Verdict
Into the Pit does well to scare, even though it’s in 2D. It’s an impressive feat to pull off in 2024 and this definitely is worthy of any FNAF fan.
