PS5 Review: Stellar Blade x NieR: Automata

So Nier, yet so far?

Nier: Automata significantly inspired Stellar Blade. The collaboration between Director Kim Hyung Tae and Director Yoko Taro, marked by mutual respect and creativity, led to this successful outcome. In the centre of all this is Emil (voiced by Maii Kadowaki), the strange character from Nier:Automata. Emil’s Shop makes a surprise appearance in the world of Stellar Blade where eleven different collaboration-special items will be available. Items that intertwine the best of both games, leading you to a more enriched world.

Back in May, I reviewed Stellar Blade and thought it was a superb action game with plenty of eye-candy too. It clearly took its inspiration from Nier: Automata, so a crossover makes total sense for both games. But just what is on offer here?

Cosmetics, Emil’s Shop and some special items are what you’ll get if you decide to get this crossover DLC. It would have been nice for some extra story content besides this, but for the low price tag of £7.99 you can’t be too mad. The full list of items are:

– Four Nanosuits for EVE
– One Face Accessory for EVE
– Three Hairstyles for EVE
– One Cosmetic for the Drone
– One Cosmetic for Adam
– One Cosmetic for Lily

To unlock these items, see where you can acquire a Stellar Tear as in-game currency for the shop – you should be able to find Emil’s Shop throughout the Wasteland and the Great Desert…“

The Verdict

Overall, I was impressed with the detail of the cosmetics and its always good to see an Emil cameo. It would have been nice for a bit more in terms of story content, but this is a good bit of crossover DLC.
