PS5/PS4 Review: They Came From The Sky 2

Is this fast-paced arcade game worth your time?

Terror from space throws world into panic! Yes, again… Your mission: Save the Earth from mankind and make a delicious juicy Human Smoothie!

They Came From The Sky 2 is very much like a classic arcade game. You play as an alien in a giant robot that destroys and abducts everything it can, until either you reach a boss and move on further down the street, or perish. You only have one life, but you will gain new abilities the more specific humans you abduct. So it’s almost like a roguelite in this respect, and you will need to replay it a good few times to get all the decent upgrades.

That’s essentially all there is to it. The enemies do get harder as you progress and more varied, but the formula remains the same. It’s very simple, but also quite addictive at the same time. I would question the price tag of £9.99 for what’s on offer as it feels like it should be a little bit less overall for what’s on offer, but it’s only slightly higher in price than I would have expected.

The visuals are classic of an arcade game. The music and sound effects are also beautifully retro, while the controls handle well and the framerate is solid throughout. There are no differences between PS4 and PS5 versions, but there are two trophy lists to complete…

The Verdict

They Came From The Sky 2 is a nice throwback to simple arcade games with it’s clear-cut approach to essentially killing everything on-screen. It can be addictive and I do like there’s a roguelite element to it. If you are looking for a retro type of game, then this definitely ticks all the boxes.
