Can Mr. Robot survive the jump to 3D?
Fresh from the Neon Dunjun, Mr. Robot returns in the third dimension! A heart pounding bullet hell dodge ’em up from veteran arcade developers Infinite State Games.
I must confess that I haven’t played the original Don’t Die Mr. Robot, but having seen footage of it online I can see the appeal and how a switch to 3D would benefit it.
You play as “Mr. Robot” who simply dodges everything coming towards him, while touching fruit will cause explosions that can cause chain reactions for high scores. The 2D format worked well, though to call the new game true 3D is a bit of a stretch. You are confined to the areas of the screen and you can rotate and zoom the camera in and out.
Whether you class it a true 3D or not doesn’t really matter though, what matters is whether it is fun or not. And luckily, it is. It can be highly addictive trying to get that high score for the leaderboard and to see just how long you can survive.
The visuals are simple, yet charming. The framerate is solid and the soundtrack feels retro by design. No bugs detected during my playthrough.
The Verdict
3D Don’t Die Mr. Robot is a fun dodge-em game and while it has limited replay value, it can be enjoyable in short bursts to see just how long you can go without imploding.
