Is this cyberpunk point-and-click a cat-astrophe?
Cat’s Request is a fantastic detective story about an extraterrestrial cat named Ash and his virtual assistant, living in a metropolis governed by artificial intelligence.
Cat’s Request is an interesting game. It’s a traditional point-and-click adventure, but you play as a walking talking cat in a cyberpunk setting. I found the story to be pretty engaging and I engaged with the characters well. It’s more traditional in the sense of a point-and-click that there isn’t much in terms of guidance, so you are essentially roaming aimlessly until you figure out the next step.
You could always look up the solution online, but that would ruin the experience in my opinion. There is a decent adventure here and while it isn’t quite as optimised for consoles as I would have liked, it still does an admirable job nonetheless.
The art style is decent and the vibrant neon lights you would expect from a game set in a cyberpunk-setting always look good. There were some technical hiccups that popped up here and there, but nothing game-breaking. I was also impressed with the soundtrack with its subtle tones.
The Verdict
Cat’s Request doesn’t reinvent the point-and-click genre, if anything it feels like its stuck to it too rigidly at times. But despite that, it’s still a decent one and worth a look if you like the genre, cats, cyberpunk or all 3.
