It’s not a loop, it’s a spiral…
Embark on a journey of anomalies and repetition in “Prison Loop”, a captivating puzzle game. Trapped in a mysterious temporal loop within a high-security prison, your objective is to observe anomalies throughout the environment and react if something alerts you. Test your observation skills, critical thinking, and ability to manipulate time to your advantage. Explore a meticulously designed prison filled with hidden secrets, atmospheric details, and haunting visuals. Try to survive in this place full of anomalies.
Back in November, I reviewed a game called The Exit Project: Backstreets, which Prison Loop instantly reminded me of. You have to push forward through a repeating room to break the cycle. If everything is normal, then carry on but if you see an anomalies then you need to head back out the door you came in from. It’s a simple premise and it works well, while having the random element thrown in so you can’t simply know what order to proceed through the doors.
The problem with games like these though is that besides an easy Platinum is that there’s very little reason to return to it once completed. I do enjoy trying to deduce if there’s anything out of place in each room, but you do start to figure it out quickly and can get through in around 20 minutes on your first go. I was disappointed to learn there is a PS4 version but that it’s sold separately and not included if you buy the PS5 version.
The visuals are decent, the framerate is smooth and I didn’t come across any glitches unless they were intentional anomalies.
The Verdict
Prison Loop is a very short game that could take you anywhere between 5-20 minutes to complete depending on luck and deductive reasoning. Like The Exit Project: Backstreets, there’s no real reason to return once you’ve nabbed the Platinum trophy available here.
