Does this strategy shooter get the Adrino-line pumping?
Put on your uniform and get ready to respond the most surprising calls in your policeman’s career. Solve cases and gain experience, but also find out why a good young policeman gave up his career in a big city and moved to a small town of San Adrino.
Police Shootout isn’t a typical FPS, but instead it’s actually turn-based and strategic that has you move from cover to cover and shoot or use other police tools to detain your suspects. Each move or action takes up a certain number of points for your turn, so you need to plan carefully or you could find yourself stranded in the open ready to be popped off by a criminal. It takes some getting used to, that’s for sure.
It does feel a bit buggy and clunky when selecting the areas to move to, but if you can look past that then there is a decent strategy game here. Shooting enemies isn’t always the easiest as it’s based on percentages and not accuracy, so even at close range there’s a chance that a headshot won’t connect. If you can deal with the clunky controls and the user interface not being the most helpful, then I think you’ll enjoy what’s on offer here.
The visuals are pretty standard but get the job done. A few visual bugs here and there, but nothing game-breaking. Framerate felt steady throughout. Voice-acting and the soundtrack felt fairly typical overall.
The Verdict
Police Shootout is a good idea and its executed well, for the most part. With some tighter controls, easier UI and bug fixes, it could be great. It feels like a missed opportunity overall, but there’s still a good game in there somewhere.
